Mini-Basketball Tag

Mini-Basketball Tag

Equipment:

  • 2-5 evil red balls.
  • Enough small balls (ping-pong, tennis, foam…etc.), for each student to have one.

Description:

  • 2-5 people are it, and are given evil red balls.
  • Everyone else has a ping-pong ball or tennis ball.
  • If you get tagged, stick your ball under your armpit and make a circle using either one hand or both.
  • Put your “hoop,” (the circle you’ve made with your hand(s)), in the air.
  • To be freed, someone has to come and “slam dunk” their ball through your hoop.

Circle Run

Circle Run

Equipment:

  • At least 4 Hula Hoops.

Description:

  • Have each student find a partner and stand with their partner. Have the students decide between them who is partner 1 and who is partner 2.
  • Bring all of the partner 1s to the middle of the gym, and have them hold hands and back up to make the largest circle they can without letting their hands come apart. Then, have the students let go of their hands and have all the partner 1s take 3 large steps backwards.
  • Now, have the partner 2s come and link arms with their partner 1.
  • Place four hula hoops in the middle of the gym (as shown in the picture).
  • If the teacher shouts “partner 1,” all of the partner 1s must run around, and outside of, all of the partner 2s in a clockwise direction until they make it back to their own partner. When partner 1 makes it back to his/her partner, they must crawl through the open legs of their partner and try to get inside one of the four hula hoops.
  • The first four people to get both feet inside one of the four hula hoops win a point for their team.
  • The first team to five points wins the game.
  • Remind students that they must be very careful when running towards a hula hoop, as their could be more than one student heading towards a hula hoop at the same time.
  • At the end of each game, have the students switch partners and/or add or take away hula hoops to change the difficulty level.

    Shooting Stars

    Shooting Stars

    Equipment:

    • As many rings (ringette rings work great), or balls, bean bags…etc. as you feel are necessary (at least 20).

    Description:

    • Create a rectangular playing area using either the lines in the gym or cones if you are outside. The playing area should be almost as large as the gym itself.
    • Line up the rings along the two outside lines of the rectangle (as shown in the picture).
    • Have one student stand on the outside of one line behind the rings, and have another student on the outside of the other line behind the rings.
    • Have all other students line up on the end line beside one another.
    • When the teacher shouts “GO,” all students have approximately 10 seconds to cross from one end of the gym to the other without being hit in the feet by a ring (a shooting star).
    • As soon as the teacher says “GO,” the two students standing behind the rings are allowed to kick or throw the rings, so that they slide along the ground, to try and hit the feet of the players running past.
    • Any player who has his/her feet hit by a ring must help to line the rings back up on the sidelines, and must then stay standing behind the rings, ready to fire on the runners in the next round.
    • To change the difficulty level, or if you are playing outside, feel free to use soccer balls, dodgeballs, bosu balls, bean bags (gym only)…etc.
